Private Client

Dying without leaving a will can result in many unintended consequences and legal complications, causing additional distress to your loved ones at an already difficult time. Making a legally valid Will is the only way to be sure that, in the event of your death, your money and possessions go to the people and causes you care about. At Alex Mitchell & Sons we have a wealth of experience drafting wills on behalf of clients, and we can advise how best to minimise or avoid payment of Inheritance Tax.

Dealing with the legal, tax and administrative processes involved following the death of a loved one can be an unwanted strain during what can be a stressful time.  We have considerable expertise in helping clients following a bereavement, and our experienced solicitors will offer clear, sympathetic advice on the various steps needed to wind up an estate.  We can provide help throughout the process, from obtaining a death certificate to ingathering the estate, dealing with any tax issues and distributing the assets to the beneficiaries.

Powers of Attorney

A Power of Attorney is a document which allows you to appoint a trusted person to help look after your affairs if you become unable to make decisions for yourself in the future. Without a Power of Attorney, your family and friends may find it difficult to manage your affairs, and they may be left needing to apply to the Court for a guardianship or intervention order, which can be costly and time consuming.  We can advise in a clear and straightforward way the steps involved in granting a Power of Attorney, and assist the attorney with the day to day administration involved.  We are also happy to act as Attorneys if this is appropriate.

Asset Protection and Care for the Elderly

With people living longer, the possibility of requiring residential care and the substantial drain on your assets that can result is a common concern.  Alex Mitchell & Sons can provide an overall review of your position, and advise on the best approach to take, with a view to ensuring that the assets that you have worked hard to build up will pass to your family.
